Helgoland

By Arthur Segal, 1923.

Segal was born in Romania and worked in Berlin, exhibiting with Die Brucke and Der Blaue Reiter, two German expressionist groups. He was also associated with Dada, the Cabaret Voltaire and the Bauhaus.

Expressionist Cubo-Futurism?

It seems to presage Quantum Physics - this is where Werner Heisenberg developed Quantum theory in 1925.

It's in the Berlinische Gallery in Berlin, on Alte Jakobstraße, Kreuzberg.

Helgoland and Heligoland are the same place, in German and Danish respectively. Two islands off the coast of Germany, in the North Sea.
