windy learns cursive

I love anything I can shoot with an extended shutter speed. Why? I guess because it's different. There's more of a challenge involved. So the idea of light painting fascinated me. It's a little more abstract that I typically like to go, but hey it's fun!

This is my first attempt at light painting. It is pretty fun and addictive! I did this in the garage mostly because it's the only area I can control light flow. I also thought the brick wall would add a bit of interestingness.

At first I was just playing around writing my name and drawing different shapes. Then I thought it would be neat to have some sort of silhouette in the frame. I remembered this glass head I bought from Pier 1 and decided it would be perfect. I set it up and placed a second flashlight behind it.

I wanted to outline the head with my pin light, but quickly realized this was just wash out the silhouette. So I decided to draw my name instead. At first I kept trying to duck out of the way of the shadow, until I remembered I was also "negative light" and would not affect the head's shadow at all. Pretty cool I think!! Sort of neat thinking I was in the shot the whole time and not visible. A living ghost!

No editing on these except for color and contrast adjustments. They are all single exposure.

Can I just say it is pretty hard to dot an i when you can't remember where you drew the i? LOL.

I have some more plans for this concept but involving people. I just have to talk a few into it. :-D
