This week we had civil education classes about discrimination, prejudice and stereotypes.
We talked about these things a lot, and today we had a test about it, too.
The activity book read: "Have you ever been discriminated? Has anyone judged you without knowing you?" and i thought about these things quite a lot. It happens several times, even if people don't notice it:
- We were about to have class when a classmate asked me for my HW to copy it and not do it by himself.
'No,' i answered (i was actually doing it at the moment lol), 'do it yourself, you have plenty of time! Or if you want, you can ask Vicky, she's already done it.'
Vicky is one of my best friends, and one of the smartest people i've ever known (and believe me, i know her well.)
Do you know what this classmate told me?
'No, Vicky's not intelligent. You are. Now show me your homework, come on!'
I stared at him, and i couldn't believe my ears. SHE IS BRILLIANT.
I remember her complaining about our classmates thinking i do all the assignments when we have to do them together, and how they think she isn't smart at all.
And when i could finally talk to her about this, i was like, what? This classmate doesn't even know you. I know, it hurts you anyway because you might fear it's true. But it isn't! You should be entirely aware of that!
That's one case of prejudice and criticism without even knowing the person being criticized.
- I think it was last year when another classmate told me i was bulimic.
'Yeah, i read about bulimic girls,' he said, 'and you are one of those.'
And i was thinking: Yes. I am bulimic. That's why i eat the recommended number of calories per day and never make myself throw up. I'm also normal/over weight. You know, I'm just a different case of bulimia, don't worry.
This guy didn't even know me. We had never talked for years, and if we had, it had been just a superficial conversation or whatever. And i asked myself: if he starts saying those things without even knowing me, do i really want him to?
- Then another classmate called my friends and I antisocial.
I was tired of these things, and i still am.
'Fuck off.' and i was done arguing. If they don't want to believe in something, they won't.
And these are just a few cases.
Do you see?
So many people have created a wrong idea about people they do not know. Isn't that SO irrational?
Because of this, i'm going to ask you for a favor. ALL of us have done this mistake. At least once.
Now, here's a big cliché, or kind of:
What i want to recommend you to feel better about yourselves and to fill somebody's day with relief isn't too hard.
First, grab your phone, your laptop, whatever you have near your hands.
Then, make an effort and repair it.
After that, tell me how you feel if your heart decided to do it.
I am supposed to write the big finale for this long text, and i am going to make a HUGE effort… And draw you a little happy person.

Hope you all had a stunning week, and hope you have another week even more wonderful. Happy 3/7, btw.
We do this every night and then we always wake up singing the same song.
