Flowers for Peace
"Flowers against mines" is an art project of Belgian ceramist/artist Anita Huybens.
This impressive and huge field of ceramic poppies (at least 1 meter high) - you only see a part of the field here - is a symbol and protest against mutilation/maiming caused by anti-personnel landmines.
I guess the red colour refers to the strong impact of amputation, sorrow and loss of every victim.
I made this picture at the Brosella Folk&Jazz festival 2007 in Brussels, July last year, held at the Osseghem Park (near the Atomium) at the Heizel/Heysel.
In 2008 a similar field was "planted" at the peace domain in Diksmuide :
It is an amazing view!

The poppies can be bought, and the profits go to the actions of the APOPO organization against landmines (demining operations), which litterally saves lives!
