Chinese bamboo backscratcher
I don't remember how or when or where or from whom I got this, but I found it recently, to my delight; it's a handy thing! :)
From Can Pac Swire (thanks!), I got these character translations):
孝道 = filial duty, filial piety, and not just necessarily of a son or daughter, it can be of any younger generation of a family or extended family… basically the philosophy, belief, duty and tradition of looking after one’s elders in Oriental culture.
福 = happiness, good blessing, good/ fortunate fate etc. There is really no equivalence in English. It means someone who has a happy, carefree, successful, fulfilling and respected life, usually referring to someone who has been born just a lucky life.
竹 = bamboo, while referring to the material of the scratcher. Bamboo poetically also means someone who is flexible, successful and capable in resolving challenges, because of the nature of bamboo in reality.
Ah, that is not a character… three triangles.. probably mean to be the symbol of bamboo shoots (new bamboo when it comes out of the soil is pointy), or it could just be a symbol of Three Mountain etc.
