The Wonderland Trail at Mount Rainier - Indian Henry's Hunting Ground
From 1999. Olympus OM4 with Zuiko 28mm f/3.5 lens. Kodak Elite Chrome ISO 100 slide film. Scanned with a Nikon Coolscan 5000.
All right - I will stop posting cookie-cutter shots of Mount Rainier soon. This one earned its way onto Flickr after I asked my girlfriend what she thought of it. Her response was that it was a nice picture, but that it seems like she'd seen it a dozen times before. While I agree that this is just a picture of the largest landmark in Washington, this statement slightly irritated me because (if I remember correctly) Indian Henry's Hunting Ground is not just a pull-off spot next to the freeway. This was day 5 or 6 of my trip around the Wonderland Trail and I'm pretty sure it's at least 6 miles from the nearest road. So this photograph has sat in my digital reject bin for the last couple of weeks until I was going for the milk in the fridge this morning. Right at eye level on our freezer is a postcard we received about a month ago with this exact same scene, photographed from about ten or so feet to the left by Pat O'Hara. Yep, same everything except the water level is a little lower in the postcard. I can't believe I didn't notice earlier. My girlfriend really has seen it dozens of times before.
