365 Beverages-021 Simple Syrup
I fell asleep on the couch. Hadn't taken my daily beverage photo. Woke up, grabbed the camera and rushed to the refrigerator. Did I make it on time? Check the EXIF.
The only light in this photo came from the lights in the fridge.
This is "simple syrup," consisting of equal volumes of sugar and water. It's used in mixing cocktails. Should it be this beautiful golden color? I used unbleached sugar and it was this color before I added any heat (to help dissolve the sugar). I've never made simple syrup before, but expect it is usually made with white sugar and has a neutral color. How will this color affect the Lemon Drop cocktail I'll be photographing soon? The other ingredients seem to be eagerly standing by. Don't tell the ReaLemon, but I'll be using fresh lemon juice.
