The weather predictors say there's a big snow storm coming (phew?!), and they're letting us on the mountain to do some winterization (phew?!).

So we got up early, got winterization supplies, and drove up to the mountain. We checked in with the deputy on the way up the mountain and got to work. We emptied the pipes, poured the RV antifreeze, packed up some more valuables, and I anxously took photos of the smoke.

We stopped in Loveland to drop of a ballot, and scrambled to Boulder so I could prepare for and attend an important meeting with a customer.

On the way back to Cheyenne, we drove under a smoke plume so large and dense that it completely blocked out the sun between Loveland and Wellington.

This scared the hell out of us, of course, but the plume turned out to be from a different (!!!) catastrophic wildfire.

It felt apocalyptic. I had a visceral reaction—we have damaged the earth beyond repair. But there we were, surrounded by thousands of people commuting home from work gas-burning cars.
