The Hmong are around the eighth largest minority group in Vietnam where they are also known as Meo, Man Trang and Mieu Toc. The Hmong sub-groups present in Vietnam include Hmong Xanh (Green Hmong), Hmong Do (Red Hmong), Hmong Hoa (Variegated Hmong) Hmong Den (Black Hmong) - the group illustrated below - and Na Mieo. They are sub-groups of the Miao people, the majority of whom live in China. Around the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th they emigrated from China to Vietnam and built villages in highland regions of Ha Gian and Lao Cai provinces.

 

Hmong, also known in Vietnam as Mieu Toc, Meo or Man Trang, in Thailand as Meo and Miao in China. They are also present in Laos and Myanmar.
