Murray House

This house, ca 1826, is located in the Ritchie Wharf area of Newcastle (now Miramichi) New Brunswick. Unfortunately, it was not open when we were there and I have not been able to find out very much about it. I am hoping that someone from that area can tell me about who Murray was and how this house came to be and remains today.

Note the siding on this house where the boards are flush with each other. I believe this is "shiplap" siding with each board having rabbit joints which fit into its neighbours. In later years, they would bevel the outer edge of the upper rabbit joint to improve water runoff, but this style prevailed from earlier times. Can anyone confirm this?
