did I ever tell you

UCI's 2025 road cycling season has begun! TDU, and the Great Ocean Road Race, have been run and won. So good, so far. Typically we look forward to the Spring Classics, and among them the five Monuments. Exciting, isn't it?

Sometimes things go a bit pear shaped: a rail crossing closes, a horse races across the course, a promotional vehicle side-swipes a rider or two, there's a protest, some clown throws tacks in the path of the peloton… This week, in high farce, most of the peloton in the opening stage of the Tour of Algarve went this way, and the remainder headed that way, to the finish line. Sorry, I need to stop here for a moment to wipe away tears of laughter!

I'm sure they'll iron out those bugs by the Giro in May. Once we get to the height of the European Summer, the scenery will be tourist brochure perfect for the TdF. From Moto 1 to Moto X, to the helicopter pilots and now drone operators, they'll all be briefed, drilled and trained on where, when and how to get the obligatory foregrounds in yellow of the distracting bicycle race going on in the background.

Did I ever tell you I hate digital zoom? Digital zoom is the principal reason that this field of cycling dreams is a bit rubbish. I hope the rest of the cycling season rolls out of the start house a bit better than the Tour of Algarve, and digital zoom!
