20091019 - Frankie
This is Frankie - up for adoption if you are near San Francisco! Chaf is fostering him for a bit. What a great little pup! I got to wake up to him climbing on my head, although eventually he and Oscar settled down and I dozed in a big pile of dog. If I didn't just get a pup, I would have been sorely tempted to find a way to get Frankie back home with me.
I'm flying back now, climbing out of the west coast. Surely internet on an airplane is a wonder. I couldn't stay out west longer; the puppy needs a lot of attention through the day, and I really still haven't gotten my fill of staying home after the crazy summer. I was only in SF itself for an overnight.
Below, the Sierra Nevada march towards us. The pines stand over a dusting of snow, over the wandering mountains and valleys. It all looks unoccupied, anonymous, as it might have forever ago. I want to be down there, running through the snow on four legs, bursting past the trees in a flurry of snow and dangling tongue, wanting nothing more than to catch a deer with my friends. I'm in the back of the plane, the jets are roaring and I have to crank up the headphones. I'll move far enough over the face of the earth on this flight to lose two hours. They were borrowed in the first place. They all are maybe. Eventually the stewartesses will come by and I'll get a gin and tonic, with a credit card. I'll peer out the window and try to figure out where I am (is that northern utah? is that I-70?), until the clouds come back and I close the shades to get some work done.
If I get to come back to this world again after leaving, I want to come back with four legs. I'll go ahead and put that in the blog, which makes it official.
Well if I ever see the morning
Just like a lizard in the spring
Im gonna run out in the meadow
To catch the silence when it sings
Im gonna force the Serengeti
To disappear into my eyes
Then when I hear your voices callin
Im gonna turn just inside out
Well if I ever get to slumber
Just like a mole deep in the ground
Hell, I wont be found
The Tallest Man On Earth, I Won't Be Found
