Cadets Practice Hands-on Calculus
Sophomore cadets conduct hands-on training to illustrate projectile motion as part of their Integral Calculus class Sept. 22. From left to right, Robert Atwell throws a ball across The Plain while Jeremiah Zingapan measures the angle of the throw, Davis Arrowchis measures its time with a stopwatch and Ian Lenny records the data on a laptop. After each throw, they used the measured angle, time and distance to determine its initial velocity. Each cadet took turns recording data in a spreadsheet that calculates speed as well as the “x” and “y” components of the position and velocity vectors. (Photo by Capt. Robert Nowicki / Dept. of Math)
