Description: Princess Street, Southgate and Town Hall, Halifax. Halifax Town Hall was designed in a free North Italian cinquecento style by the architect of the Houses of Parliament, Sir Charles Barry, It was completed by his son, Edward Middleton Barry, who added the mansard roof with its decorative ironwork cresting and soaring tower and spire. It was opened on 4 Aug 1863 by the Prince of Wales (the future Edward VII), the first visit to Halifax by a member of the British Royal Family.
