Night and Day
Assignment: Like Night & Day (Diptych)
Your assignment is to take a photo of something (or someone) during the day, and then take a photo of that something or someone at night. (Both photos must be taken in the same location.) Then, bring both of the photos together to present an interesting diptych. There are many ways to do this, as seen below.
Restriction: No more than two photos in your final image, and the photos must be taken of the same thing(s) in the same location or of the same person in that location. Doesn’t have to be the same exact spot, but please give us a sense that you are showing us both the day and night side of something similar. If it’s a person, he/she doesn’t have to pose the same.
Also, you may not make one or both of the photos "look" like a night or day photo with photoshop; one must be taken during the day and one at night.
Dare: There are so many ways to be creative here. So I dare you to be creative!
WIT: I wasn't sure I'd be able to squeeze in a shot for this assignment because of time and lack of an interesting subject. The family took a trip to Minneapolis, MN and the hotel we stayed in had a decent view of some office buildings that looked OK at night and the busy street intersection was pretty empty on the weekend. I took this shot by setting the camera on the balcony railing and using the auto timer to trigger a 4 second exposure at night. The next morning I set the camera in the same place and shot the daytime image. In PSE I aligned the images and used a gradient mask to blend the two images together. I wanted the street part to be the night scene, but the daytime shot had a bland overcast sky so I went with scene as shown.
