Dances with Daisies
Today we celebrate Hoya’s 18th birthday.
During his month-long sojourn with us this past May, he became friends with Romeo. Two Bengal boys who serenaded one another with their heart-filled melancholy melodies; a memory to forever treasure. He even had an adventurous spring day outing. Doesn’t he look so wildly stunning here amongst the daisies.
But 16 years ago his story was sadly so different. Hoya’s former family couldn’t deal with his vicious biting after being declawed. I had offered to help retrain him, but learned that they really didn’t want him so I adopted him. He was terribly afraid of hands and feet, which took me months to retrain to regain his trust. Unfortunately, he was not cat friendly either no matter the great measures I had taken to integrate him with Romeo and Kieran. But our family friends (who had never owned a cat before) were willing to foster and then subsequently adopt Hoya since he got along with their sweet West Highland terrier. A wonderful alternative so I could always continue visit with him.
Lately he’s been battling gastrointestinal lymphoma and congestive heart failure for the past 18 months. Despite it all Hoya’s still a happy little purr-bug who loves being cuddled and sharing lap time.
Happy birthday Hoya! May this year bring you countless days of pure love and joy.
