Weekend Wake-Up: Quilombo

The Weekend Wake-Up is a series of FREE community events in Oakland, CA combining an after-school graffiti curriculum with dynamic multi-media hip-hop parties.
The after-school graffiti curriculum is designed to create a hands-on experience for middle and high school aged students that traces the roots of lettering and symbolic communication from their indigenous roots to their modern practice as graffiti. Students apply this knowledge to the creation of eight exhibits exhibit one each month in Oakland galleries. Each exhibit is based on a different social justice concept.
