Sunset glow on Horsetail Falls, Yosemite NP
Best on lightbox, press L
Here's my best capture of this spectacular event. As there were 100's of photographers staked out in the 3 best spots in the valley, I expected there to be a flood of posts on flickr, but there haven't been that many. I'm pleased with this one, so, hope you are too.
A funny story to go with this:
While we were waiting for the sun to get to its best position to photograph the falls, some elderly ladies were milling about all the photographers, apparently attracted by the sheer numbers of people -- they probably thought there was an animal to be seen. The clouds went gray and the event looked like it was going to be a bust; and my partner was anxious to get on the road home was about ready to call it quits. A minute or so later the glow began to appear on the wall of El Capitan and the whoops and "thank yous" began from the photographer chorus. The elderly ladies who had come to Yosemite just for the vacaction were suddenly treated to this light show par excellence and started freaking with excitement. They had no idea what was in store and were completely amazed. They walked all over the place saying OMG! and we were hoping they would not bump our tripods as they were stepping within inches of all our gear. We had to have one eye on the camera and the other on them. It made the event all the more memorable.
But wait, there's more!
I've posted an HD video of frazil ice we saw the following weekend here
Hope you all can get this image like this for yourselves, and have a great weekend!
