Alpine lake full of stars

Chickenfoot lake, Little Lake Valley, Sierra Nevadas, California

Getting pictures like this on film used to be a very difficult thing to do! The digital generation has changed all that, and now everyone's getting into astrophotography. I say hallelujah! This is the best of the lot I took at this high sierra lake. We were fortunate to have a windless evening where the stars would reflect nicely in the water. You'll notice some lights on the mountains themselves; these are lights of mountain climbers descending from Bear Creek spire after the sun went down.

I hope these sky shots don't become cliche too soon. Those of us that dwell among city lights rarely get to enjoy a bright view of the milky way like this, which is both awesome and humbling.

Hope you enjoy it here if you can't see the night skys in person.

Must be seen on black to fully appreciate -- click once on the picture to get the black background.
