Red deer Stag

If you asked the question: Would the new 7D MKII AF system handle a 150-600 Tamron with a 1.4X Teleconverter and still autofocus? Well I hope this will go toward answering your question. In short yes. But. And there's always a but. It does need good light and/or a high ISO (Up to 1250 in some shots I took) and you are limited to ( in my experience on the day anyway) Single point Spot AF. Single point AF. AF Point Expansion. AF Point Expansion (Surrounding points) and Zone AF. Well five out of the seven available isn't bad in my humble opinion.

This shot for instance taken later in the afternoon as I was about to leave the park and with the sun dropping away behind and to the right of this lovely animal had me reaching for the ISO button and a 1250 setting got the focus on and got me the shot. I could have focussed manually but I was testing things out. The Sigma Teleconverter takes nothing away from the sharpness though and I was pleased with the result even though I had to process the RAW file in the barely adequate Canon DPP software and finish it off in my usual workflow. The previous image of the Pere David Deer was also shot with the Sigma APO EX DG 1.4X TC'v on the back of the 150-600.
