Milwaukee Road Over Lincoln Hwy DeKalb, IL
A while back we started a little facebook group devoted to learning more about the Old Gary Line. Lots of pictures stowed away in the photos section and we're always glad to hear questions and chat about this almost forgotten railroad.

Background info: The Illinois Iowa & Minnesota, I I & M was the original railroad built 1904-05 connecting the Illinois cities of Momence - Joliet - Aurora - DeKalb - Kirkland - Rockford. The successor was the Chicago, Milwaukee & Gary, C M & G. Eventually the line was taken over by the Milwaukee Road. Over the years it has often been referred to, as "The Gary Line".
By the time the above photo was taken, the section north of Kirkland to Rockford had been abandoned and this branch only went as far north as Kirkland. However it still ran the full distance south-east to Aurora, Joliet and ended at Momence, IL.
This view is looking eastward as Milwaukee Road Steamer powered by engine 944, is working its way south over the Lincoln Hwy Underpass at the south-east corner of DeKalb. Another interesting tidbit is the Chicago Aurora & DeKalb Interurban passed through the north side of the underpass along side the old two lane Lincoln Hwy.
As you can imagine this spot looks much differently today.
Today this underpass is long gone and this is the location of the Peace Rd & Lincoln Hwy (Rt 38) intersection.
I just found a Timetable dated March 1907 for the C M & G Railway and have to share the link:
