High Voltage

A severe thunderstorm builds rapidly in the early evening hours to the east of Boulder Colorado. The storm generated hail as large as 2.8 inch / 7.1 cm in diameter and high winds, which together did as much as $2 billion damage to cars and buildings in the Denver metro area. Storms with such ferocity are becoming more common, very likely associated with climate change impacts on greater capacity of the atmosphere to hold moisture and increasing instability.
