Comet NEOWISE graces the early evening sky above Longs Peak, with a bit of residual sunset color left in the clouds. This was my first early evening viewing of the comet, much easier than the 90 minute pre-dawn time (3-4 am). I was able to catch the comet as it moved toward the sky above the peaks on the Continental Divide from a spot near Gold Hill (CO) that had the right viewing geometry.

Although the comet has been rising in the night sky towards the end of July it has dimmed. Soon it will disappear altogether, and continue on its journey to the outermost parts of the solar system. But don’t worry, it will be back in 6766 years (but will our species still be here?).

This is a combination of 13 shots, 12 stacked using Starry Landscape stacker (2 seconds at ISO 10,000, f 5.6) and one of the landscape and sunset clouds (60 seconds at ISO 640, f5.6), combined using a layer mask in Photoshop. Photographed with a Sony A7iii and a Sony 200-600 f5.6-6.3 lens set at 200 mm.
