Magenta Curtain
The afternoon sky melts away at sunset above the Continental Divide/ Indian Peaks, and mirrored in Red Rock Lake. It is relatively rare to have calm conditions when virga or rain are falling, as the latter is usually accompanied by atmospheric turbulence. Sometimes you get lucky, though it is usually associated with multiple empty trips to catch beautiful sunsets mirrored in calm lakes, when instead the sky is clouded over and the wind howling.
Just prior to taking this photo a group decided to skinny dip in the lake, and yes, their screams and high voices when they got out indicated the water was cold. The scaups (type of duck) in the lake weren’t impressed.
I hope staring at this for awhile will help balance (ever so slightly) the bizarre and awful week that just ended.
