Gobblers
This tom turkey and his consort of hens serenaded me while taking the previous post. Wild turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo) have figured prominently in North American history. They've been a food source for probably all human cultures that have inhabited the continent, and were domesticated in meso-America. Spanish explorers transported them to Europe in the 17th century, where their popularity as a dinner dish grew. Some English settlers brought domesticated turkeys with them when they traveled to settle the Americas - a unique round-trip for the turkeys.
