Waves and rotors
Mountain wave clouds are more rare in the summer along the Front Range of the southern Rockies, but still make an occasional appearance. These clouds are symptomatic of high winds blowing over the Continental Divide. The lower clouds are called "rotors" and show a turbulent vortex in the lower part of the wave. Here the setting sun lights up the clouds and shows off their textures and forms.
