Between the fine lines

Low sunlight accentuates the fine structure of the numerous layers in a sandstone formation overlooking Padre Bay on Lake Powell. Across the Bay are (l to r) Padre, Dominguez, Dinosaur, Boundary, and Tower Buttes.

I never imagined enjoying touring something that I once despised so much. Lake Powell represents the arrogance of mid-20th century thinking of "conquering" nature. While so much beauty and archeological potential was lost, the construction of Glen Canyon Dam did facilitate recreational use of the area, provides water storage, and augments power supply regionally. It is both beautiful and terrible at the same time.

Thanks to Peter Boehringer for organizing the trip, and for the companionship of John Mumaw ("Mr. Jalapeño"), Steve Semper, Eric, Henk Meijer (aka "Floydian", and Jen ("moment's notice").
