Hood River bridge, WA & OR
The Hood River Bridge crosses the Columbia River from Hood River, OR to White Salmon, WA (part of which is seen in the background). Completed in 1924, it is 1347 m (4418 feet) long. It is a truss bridge supported by 20 concrete piers, with a vertical lift span in the middle. The bridge deck in the center has a clearance of 20 metres (67 feet) normally, increasing to 45 metres (148 feet) when the lift span is raised, which only happens once or twice a month.
