This reservoir, established in 1949 as part of the Columbia Basin irrigation project, covers about 43 square miles (112 square km), and has a maximum depth of 142 feet (43 metres) and mean depth of 18 feet (5.5 metres). It is held back by the O'Sullivan dam, a huge earthfill dam (19,000 feet or 5791 metres long, and 200 feet or 61 metres high).
