Pitt Lake, located just east of Vancouver, BC, is a large lake (23 km long, 4.5 km wide) which was originally a saltwater fiord, but was cut off from the sea by Fraser River sediments. Although mainly freshwater, it is at sea level and is still tidal. Area, 53.5 square km; mean depth, 45 m; maximum depth, 143 m.
