Bodie Ghost Town
An original ghost town from the late 1800's, Bodie stands today in a state of "arrested decay". Once a bustling mining town with families, miners, robbers, storeowners, gunfighters and prostitutes, Bodie is now lost down a dusty 13 mile long road, off of state highway 395.
"There's a story about a little girl whose family moved from San Francisco to Bodie. Depending on who tells you, or where you read it, she wrote either: "Good, by God, I'm going to Bodie" or "Goodbye God, I'm going to Bodie". Once you get through this site, you'll have to decide for yourself."
*We reached this ghost town at sundown and man, was I scared! It was creepy walking into old houses with all the furnitures still set up like the way they were, but covered with dusts and cobwebs just like it is in the movies. It almost seemed like the people who once inhabited this town just up and left. But although it was a bit creepy, I think we got there at the perfect time - sundown. It seems to be the best time to capture this little ghost town - the wonderful warm colors of the decayed buildings was perfect.
