around 7 a.m. before the flag ceremony, young kids are "required" to sweep the school yard with "walis-tingting." Walis-tingting is a broomstick made with the ribs of coconut leaves tied in a bundle.

 

This is the way things were when I was a kid. And apparently, it still is...
