strength is ::

This woman, one of the Tarekeka refugees, has become a symbol of the strength that I saw inside of every Sudanese woman I met.

Culturally, they do all the heavy lifting - from raising their families to working the fields and selling their goods in the local market. Not to mention daily bearing the physical load of walking to the nearest source of water - either a community well or a ground water source - and carrying the 50lb. jerry can home to their families.

Their role in the upcoming election is also very important: not only are they a majority of the population in the South, but women will be voting for the first time & 25% of the seats have been reserved for female candidates.

Today, day 9 of Water is Basic's 30 days of prayer for Sudan, please join us as we lift up the women of Sudan. Pray for their continued strength and ask for protection over them as they carry out their daily duties and seek to have their voice heard.
