1838, Litton Cheney church
Plaque dated 1838 on the east wall of the chancel. The initals JSCR would be for James Septimus Cox, rector from 1833-1873. This would seem to indicate that some work was done to the east wall of the chancel prior to the 1878 restoration.
The pillar and arch motif often features on early West Dorset table tombs and headstones, and may originally have been copied from the carving on Elizabethan /Jacobean pulpits.
