what’s left…
...of my buddy’s 6 foot leash! it was a perfect day out at white plains…2-3 footers with an occasional larger set…smooth water, which is a rarity there…very slight breeze…then all of a sudden, i see my partners 8 foot board stand straight up out of the water and started tombstoning out to sea…SHARK!!!!! the ‘tax collector’ had approached his board from the front and struck the tail end in a rolling bite. THANK GOD IT MISSED HIS LEG! the shark must have got the leash lodged in its mouth because it started to do a kill spin. with the leash still stuck in its mouth, the predator dove and headed out. that’s why the board stood on its tail…for at least 20 yards! a couple of extremely brave dudes immediately came to my partner’s rescue, flanked him with their boards and made sure he was safe. by then the shark had separated from the board and another brave surfer retrieved it so my buddy could get out of the water….and after narrowly escaping death, does he go straight in? NO!!! the dude starts paddling up and down the break to find me and warn all of our friends. the lifeguards cleared the beach and the helicopters were buzzing by the time we hit the shore…and then we prayed…we prayed a lot!
