and then it’s gone…

yesterday, my big-boy and his fellow seniors played their last home game. it was a tough game…we got smoked…big-boy had a terrible day behind the plate…at bat…

after each year’s last home game, the team does a senior walk thing. the boys take a seat at home plate and an announcer will read letters written by each of the players' parents. the wifey had me write our letter to big-boy…this simple one page letter was the hardest thing i’ve ever had to write in my life…i just couldn’t find the right combination of words to adequately express to him how proud i was…how much i loved him…how much i’m going to miss him when he goes to college…

one “away” game left in the season…the last game of my son’s life…in a blink of an eye, it’s gone…

side note: i approached one of the coaches after my son’s miserable performance and told him, “thanks for giving kellen a chance. i’m sorry he sucked.” the coached looked at me and laughed. “don’t worry,” he says, “he’ll get another chance to suck on friday.”
