metering question

situation: super duper bright window in back of the subject. i had the meter pattern set on 'matrix' for this one. subject came out too dark. i've tried 'center weighted' but then the pics look like a nuclear bomb went off in back of the subject.

 

focal: 50mm (prime)

stop: f/2.8 (cuz the prior shot was in the opposite direction)

exp: 1/200

meter: pattern

prog: aperture (cuz i don't know shutter)

ev: -2 (cuz the darn window)

 

suggestions appreciated.
