Holborn Circus, Negretti & Zambra building C1941

Once again, we're looking at the aftermath of the May 1941 air raid, this time from Holborn Circus and looking to Charterhouse Street to the left and Holborn Viaduct to the right. In the middle of both pictures is the Negretti & Zambra building, engulfed in flames in the left picture and as a gutted shell in the right picture. All the buildings in view, from this point right down to the Farringdon Road, were so badly damaged, they had to be demolished. Some months later, a photographer came and took pictures of this area which show, to dramatic effect, the scale of the devastation - see next pictures in this set.
