Crab tenderizer- blink

I know that some like to see that membrane closed so I decided to post two shots of the Yellow-crowned Night Heron after the caught a rather small blue crab. They use that nictating membrane with almost every snap of the jaw when they are either striking at something in the water or dismantling a crab or crayfish (that’s crawfish here in Texas) and always keep the eye protected.

The truth about that head-on shot of this Heron is that I suspect that he like had his eye on the carb and I was merely in the direction that he was looking at. That small crab didn’t last very long after the heroin applied his tenderizer to it. Photo taken on Horsepen Bayou in Alligator Alley. Take your pick.
