Limestone floors were once polished by slowly moving glaciers. Pits and cracks that were present, became enlarged by solution of the limestone, enabling shrubs and flowers to take root.

The Edraianthus Serpyllifolius, the Crawling Bell Flower is a vulnerable, rare endemic species that was first described in 1829 by the Croatian botanist R. Visiani. Biokovo is the only known finding site in a very small area between the tops of Sveti Jure and Troglav. It flowers between june and august.
