lake country

Official trail leads to the outlet of Big Heart Lake, pictured on the left. On the right is Angeline Lake. Our route followed a pretty good 'user' trail along the land bridge dividing the two lakes, connecting us with good Forest Service trail. We hiked down the official trail leading us into the valley of the West Foss River and eventually our trailhead, about an hour after dark .

Taken while out on a 3-day, Fall excursion to the Alpine Lakes Wilderness in the Cascade Range. We traveled a rugged cross country route over about 30 miles, making a loop from Necklace Valley over to the lakes basin and West Fork Foss River. The weather was cold, cloudy and unstable, which contributed to a general lack of enthusiasm on Wendy and I's part. Nevertheless, we traveledl prime Cascade Mountain countryside - ever so green, brushy and steep.
