Effective transit speeds vs. taxi speeds at the same locations

Transit vehicles have slower effective speeds than other vehicles on the same roads because they have to make more and longer stops, but how much slower? This is a scatterplot of speeds recorded between the same locations (50-foot squares) in Muni and AC Transit territory by transit vehicles and taxis, and the curve that Gnuplot proposed as a fit to the data: 0.140851 * x**1.34973 + 7.30002.

Data from NextBus and Cabspotting, October and November, 2011. Speeds in miles per hour.
