El Mariposa Búho (The Owl [Butterfly], Caligo memnon)

Composed of two images (hand-held), stacked with ZereneStacker using the PMax method, but mostly using a lot of manual retouching to merge the two images (as I'd moved the camera in pretty much all dimensions, and the butterfly had opened its wings slightly more in the second shot). And the water in the background was rippling, so there were some rather annoying changes in background highlights and shadows.

I could probably have gotten away with just using either image standalone, but in one the eyes just weren't quite in focus, and in the other conversely the wing edges were relatively soft.

Lots of 'photoshopping' in Aperture - blurs, sharpening, dodging, burning, etc. Unfortunately this is only really practical to do on the stacked image, but the TIFFs ZereneStacker exports, despite ostensibly being 16-bit, don't hold up nearly as well to editing as the RAWs. So if you look too closely you'll see some artefacts that remain because they're too much effort to remove.
