The Blue Whale

Catoosa, Oklahoma.

A Route 66 icon, but one of the later ones. This one was constructed in the early 1970's, and the pond it's located in opened as a public swimming hole. It closed in 1988, and this location languished for awhile until it was restored and repainted several years ago. You can now get out and walk around the site again.....but swimming is no longer allowed here. I don't think I'd want to anyway.....lots of moss growing in the pond, and I imagine a group of rowdy kids could probably get this water pretty muddy pretty quickly.
