Machu Picchu (Quechua: Machu Pikchu = ancient summit) is an archaeological site in Peru and one of the most famous Inca cities ever. It is located about 75 km northwest of Cusco, where the capital of the ancient Inca Empire was located. Since 1974, Machu Picchu has been an archaeological national park, since 1983 the site has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site and since July 8, 2007 one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.
Finally the sun won the battle against the clouds and mist and offered this amazing view on Machu Picchu...
Machu Picchu (Quechua: Machu Pikchu = alter Gipfel) ist eine archäologische Stätte in Peru und eine der bekanntesten Inkastädte überhaupt. Sie befindet sich ca. 75 km nordwestlich von Cusco, wo sich die Hauptstadt des alten Inka-Reiches befand. Seit 1974 ist Machu Picchu archäologischer Nationalpark, seit 1983 gehört der Ort zum Weltkulturerbe der UNESCO und seit dem 08. Juli 2007 zu den neuen sieben Weltwundern.
Zum Schluß gewann die Sonne den Kampf gegen Wolken und Nebel und gab diesen wunderbaren Blick auf Machu Picchu frei...
