Kaboom!
Yesterday, while sweating some pipes on the outside of my house, my 40+ year old propane torch malfunctioned and caught on fire. Flames were shooting out of the canister like a flare. I threw it aside (after taking off a lot of leg hair!) and rushed to extinguish the flames.
The water to the whole house was turned off and the garden hoses disconnected (to drain the pipes), so while this was burning, I'm running around, trying to get everything hooked back up. Of course, the pipes I was soldering weren't finished, so when I turned the water on, I had a flood going on, too.
About this time, the safety valve on the canister let go, so now I have a real rocket burning in the yard. I was hosing everything down, but with the open pipes, the hose wasn't getting enough pressure to extinguish the flames. Fortunately, I had an almost 5 gallon bucket of dirt not too far away, so I smothered the flames with that.
This shot is the aftermath, once I dug out the tank and disconnected the torch. It was an exciting five minutes, to be sure!
