Lilli Lehmann:

She was born in Würzburg, Germany on 24th Nov 1848 and died in Berlin, Germany on 17th May 1929.
She made her debut in Prague in 1865 and her New York Metropolitan debut as 'Carmen' 1885. She sang in all the world's major opera houses in roles by numerous composers from Wagner to Mozart - excelling in them all - she sang 170 roles in 119 operas and continued to sing into the 1920's.
She and her sister Marie sang in the first Bayreuth 'Ring' in 1876 - her roles being, Woglinde, Helmwige and the Woodbird. The last two operas of the Ring being world premières - Die Walküre and Gotterdammerung.
Lehmann made a number of records in the early 1900's and these show a still extraordinary voice.
