Kadam, Kadambu (Neolamarckia cadamba)

This is commonly called Kadam or Kadom and in Malayalam Kadambu or Aattuthekku

 

This is an evergreen tree native to South and Southeast Asia.

Scientific name: Neolamarckia cadamba

 

This tree is frequently mentioned in our Ithihasam, Puranam, myths, stories as Kadamba vriksham, kadamba vanam.

 

This tree is associated with Krishna's life along river Yamuna, this is also associated with Shakthiism--kadamba vana vaasini.

 

This is mostly seen along river course thus a riverine or riparian species. Flowers used for worship.
