Bombarding cancer

Varian 21 IX medical linear accelerator (LINAC) with on-board imaging and cone-beam CT

The large component is known as the gantry. It weighs fourteen tons, yet can deliver radiation to a point in the patient to within two millimeters of where we want to deliver the radiation.

My job as a medical physicist is to calibrate these annually, and sometimes monthly.

I was involved with the installation and configuration of this LINAC.

And yes, I know, I should have got the top of the machine in the foto, but there was no way I could get the top and the bottom.
