Movements of a Streetcar
I imagined this shot capturing the wobbling, jostling motion of a city streetcar as it trundles along it's tracks in the downtown core. The streetcar might also stand as a metaphor for our way of life as we know it today, the thing is moving along, seemingly by itself, most of the time smoothly and some weirdos come into our "cars" for varying periods and then get off and go elsewhere. It's in a constant state of flux as different people populate it for their time "on the ride" and they either connect with us directly of they're "just there".
Many people see Pano-Sabotage as DE-structive and in a way I suppose it is, but I also like to see it as RE-constructive, as a snapshot in a phase of re-adjustment. It's become clear to a number of the world's finest scientific and cultural minds that we simply cannot continue to live on this planet the way that we have been for the past 150 years or so. If we continue to believe that resources are unlimited and that the Earth will passively take whatever punishment we dish out to her, we do so at our extreme peril.
The entire system is on the verge of collapse and we can re-adjust our ways of life and our thinking, thereby greatly facilitating a shift into a different world, or we can keep our collective heads in the sand while the lion approaches.
Richard Gustafson said once that he felt that Pano-Sabotage was somehow a very appropriate form of art for the times. To him it expressed the breakdown of our current way of life. It's in this light that I see the medium in part, but I also see it as the first steps of a positive shift out of contemporary life. For as systems scientist, Ervin Laszlo, stated, It's not a question of IF this collapse is going to happen, it's more a question of WHEN.
Either we walk into it willingly and brace ourselves with eyes open, or we fall prey to it. It's up to each of us to decide which way we'll meet this.

Black and White Pano-Sabotage continues. "Pano-Sabotage" is the technique of deliberately MIS-using the smart phone's pano camera function to create marked and unique effects WITH THE CAMERA. Some post processing is done for balance and contrast etc, but the EFFECT of the "facetized" imagery is done IN the camera, AT the moment of shooting.
See the Flickr group, "PANO-Vision" for a gallery of said imagery as practiced by a small roster of dedicated, serious artists who are pushing this medium into fantastic new places.
